Reaction to Minister’s statement

Eroglu in his oral statement which was covered in national media on December 8th said, “They are falling apart. FETO has nothing left. USA is saying goodbye to FETO. Gulen will die in USA and be buried in a Jewish cemetery.”

Ishak Ibrahimzadeh, Leader of Turkish Jewish Community reacted to the Minister’s statement via a tweet. He tweeted, “Dear Minister. We are expecting an explanation with regards to your statement. Cemeteries are our primary sacred places.” Eroglu did not respond.

Submitting a parliamentary question, HDP Istanbul MP Garo Paylan asked Minister of Forestry and Water Affairs Mr. Veysel Eroglu if his words were anti-Semitic. “

Do you think your expression was anti-Semitic? Do you think your expression reflected hate speech? Considering the Jewish community being exposed to numerous hate crimes, do you think your words can lead to more hate crimes against Jewish Community? Your government has demanded for Fetullah Gulen’s extradition from USA. Now you said, “Gulen will die in USA”. In this case, did your Government give up on its demand?”

Afterwards Minister Eroglu, replied to Ýbrahimzadeh’s tweet and said that those were not his remarks.
