3rd International Conference on Israel and Judaism Studies in Izmir
The 3rd International Conference on Israel and Judaism Studies will take place in Izmir Democracy University, between the dates November 8-10.This year the conference's theme is determined as 'Turning Points: Change and Continuity in Judaism and Israel'. The program is aiming to point out the historic moments and critical turning points that Judaism and Israel have passed through during the historical process and by doing so, is planning to create a discussion platform to analyze how these affected today. The program includes the traditional fields of Jewish studies such as Jewish theology as well as the issues regarding Israeli studies within the fields such as politics, international relations, history, sociology, etc.
Among the speakers at the conference will be some writers from our newspaper Şalom. Silvyo Ovadya will attend the conference with his presentation on 'Ottoman and Turkish Jews Through Postcards' (in Turkish), Metin Delevi, with his presentation on 'Antisemitism: Its Short History, and its Reflection on Today' (in Turkish), Ferhat Atik, with his presentation on 'Kristallnacht and the Dynamic Turning Points of the Bitter Travel to Freelands Through Holocaust' (in Turkish), and Umut Uzer with his presentation in English, on 'Theoretical Approach to Turkish - Israeli Relations'.
