This year, Hanukkah was celebrated at Ortakoy, Istanbul for the second time. The public celebration organized by the Turkish Jewish Community in cooperation with Besiktas Municipality was held on Saturday, on the first night of the holiday at Esma Sultan Mansion in Ortakoy.
Minister of Forestry and Water Affairs Mr. Veysel Eroglu’s words he used during a conversation with various reporters at the parliament sparked a debate. While referring to Fetullah Gulen, Eroglu said, “Gulen will die in USA and be buried in a Jewish cemetery.”
The section in Office of Mufti’s web site where there is information about historical mosques, the location of Yeni Mosque in Eminonu was described with the expression “it used to be a filthy Jewish and Christian neighborhood”. This expression sparked reaction.
Following last Saturday evening’s horrific terror attack in Istanbul, Besiktas where 44 people lost their lives, Turkish Jewish Community issued a statement. Turkish Jewish Community once again condemned terror and emphasized that we are all one heart against terror.
