Human Rights Body of the Council of Europe ECRI (European Commission against Racism and Tolerance) published its fifth report on Turkey, on October 4th. The report while noting some positive improvements in legal and institutional changes, highlights the deterioration in conditions of refugees and some minority groups and especially the rise in hate speech.

In the annual Country Reports on Human Rights Practices published by US State Department, anti-Semitism was among the topics covered in Turkey’s report. While the report gave “Mastermind”, a documentary film, as an example for anti-Semitic comments by elected officials and media, it also emphasized number of positive steps taken by the government during the year.

This year for the first time a Memorial Ceremony as part of International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of Holocaust was held in Ankara, on January 27th. Speaker of the Turkish Parliament Cemil Cicek mentioned the Israeli-Palestinian conflict at his speech. Omer Celik, Minister of Culture and Tourism was also present at the ceremony. Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu sent a special message.
