"Goodness is the Golden Rule" - Interview with Kirsten C. Kunkle In the Ottoman Empire, when there was a need for urgent money, 'Kaime (paper bills) Emergency Money' was printed (initially in 1840). During the reign of Sultan Murad V. in the year 1877, when these banknotes were devalued because they did not have equivalent in silver or gold, synagogues, mosques, churches, and some other institutions started to print paper bills.
The '5 Para (banknote)' printed in the name of 'Izmir Impoverished Preserver Society Needy and Support Foundation' which was recently added to the Museum of Turkish Jews collection, can be seen on the second floor of the museum.
