2003 Synagogue Attacks Commemorated 18 Years Later

The brutal synagogue attacks in 2003 and the lives lost in those attacks were commemorated once again yesterday, on Tuesday, October 26th, with a ceremony held in Neve Shalom Synagogue.

On November 15th, 2003, during the terror attacks organized with trucks full of bombs towards Neve Şalom and Şişli Beth Israel synagogues, two big synagogues of the Jewish Community in Istanbul, 28 people including the attackers had lost their lives, more than 300 people had been injured. People who had lost their lives during the terror attack were commemorated on Tuesday, October 26th.

Following the terror attacks, in Beyoğlu where Neve Shalom Synagogue is located, 20 buildings had been damaged of which 9 had been heavy, 3 moderately, and 8 minorly damaged. In Şişli where Şişli Beth Israel Synagogue is located, 20 buildings had been damaged of which 7 had been moderate and 12 minorly damaged. Al-Qaeda had claimed responsibility for the terror attacks.

Ahmet Özdoğan, Anette Rubinstein Talu, Anna Rubenstein, Avram Varol, Berta Özdoğan, Bülent Bostanoğlu, Emin T. Yakupoğlu, Fasıl Süslü, Hakan Yüksel, Yoel Kohen Ülçer, Kaya Kaya, Mehmet Ateş, Mehmet Eruş, Mesut Gürol, Murat Şahin, Mustafa Yenier, Naşit Gürel, Nurettin Aydın, Oğuz Kızılırmak, Ömer Yazar, Saadet Güneş, Serkan Balcı, Yona Romano had lost their lives in the brutal attack.
