Purim is a holiday celebrated in memory of the salvation of the Jews of the ancient Persian Empire from Aman's plan to kill all of them. This story is told in the Book of Esther (Megillat Esther) part of the Tanach.
Megillat Esther (Scroll of Esther) is the name given to the book describing the Purim event. 'The Story of Esther' which is read during the Purim Holiday, is handwritten on a parchment scroll and decorated meticulously with drawings.
The 'Megillat Esther' shown above is from the 19th century Bursa region, silver plated using filigree art, with a coral at the top, and had belonged to Ruben Benefraim. It can be seen in the museum collection.
