'Besamim', the incense box containing aromatic herbs, spices, or fruit, is especially used at the end of Shabbat, during the Havdalah ceremony. The fragrant smell of the besamim comforts and soothes the soul when Shabbat is over. On this particular silver 'besamim' ornated with floral patterns, there are flowers and petals. It is possible to find different besamim boxes in various shapes and designs.
This 'besamim' which has come from the Yeniköy Tiferet Israel Synagogue, can be seen in the Judaica section of the Quincentenial Foundation Museum of Turkish Jews.
