We´ve Lost Great Master Metin Sarfati
Şalom writer, philosopher, and academician Prof. Metin Sarfati lost his life due to his illness. The unexpected death of Metin Sarfati created a great wave of grief, especially among his family, loved ones, and the academic world. Sarfati´s death went down in history as a great loss for Turkey, the Turkish Jewish Community, and the university circles. Sarfati had willed that the news of his death should be announced 20 days after his death.Born in Istanbul, Metin Moshe Sarfati had started to be interested in social issues at the Galatasaray Highschool where he studied the high school. He took a break from academic life after completing his master's degree at the Istanbul University, Faculty of Economics.
Later he completed his doctorate degree also at the Istanbul University, Faculty of Economics.
He received his associate professor title in the field of History of Economic Thought at the Marmara University, Faculty of Political Sciences, Department of Public Administration in French. He then was appointed as a professor in the same department.
During his tenure, he attended various universities in France -with or without scholarship-, and lectured as a "Professeur invité (visiting lecturer)".
Prof. Metin Sarfati lastly had been working at the Nişantaşi University, Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences, New Media and Communication Department.
Metin Sarfati has three books published in Turkish, namely [their titles translated into English], 'The Depression of Civilization: An Analysis Attempt at the Crossroads of Psychoanalysis and Economics (2014)', 'Who is the Person of Political Economy? (2010)', and 'From the Jewish Human to the Human Jew (2022)'. His latest book 'From the Jewish Human to the Human Jew', published this year, is a compilation of his articles that have been published in Şalom Newspaper since 2018.
Prof. Sarfati also has 13 books that he had co-authored. Besides his numerous articles in Turkish, he also had written many articles in English and French.
Concentrating his studies in especially 18th and 19th century philosophical and economic thought, Sarfati's fields of interest included economic philosophy, the relationships between economics and art, and economics and literature.
