Asim Kaytaz´s Photography Exhibition at Schneidertempel
Prof. Dr. Asım Kaytaz´s ´Photoprints of a Wanderlust´ photography exhibition met the art lovers in Schneidertempel Arts Center on Wednesday, December 28th. The exhibition may be visited until January 21st, every day except Monday.Prof. Dr. Asım Kaytaz who received his professor title in 1996, is talking about his meeting photographs and photography: "Among my first memories of photography are my father's taking photographs, retouching the photos he took with hard pencils and even coloring them with colored pencils. I was always impressed by his capturing the moment while taking photos and his effort to convey his testimony to others. Later in Robert College [during high school], I received education in the framework of the 'Audiovisual' class, and I was involved in the photography club.
The 'pleasure to take photography', which I had neglected for years due to the intense studying environment during the periods of my medical education, ENT/Head and Neck Surgery specialization, and faculty member, came back to me as my travels increased besides being able to take more time for myself in the 2000s. The shootings, which at first, had been as a 'testimony' and 'sharing of this testimony' of the places seen, and moments lived, later evolved into a 'statement'. I can easily state that my one and only ambition in recent years is to take better pictures. It is a hobby that satisfies my participatory and sharing personality. The medical profession and being a faculty member are based on a process that starts with learning, observation, and fine research, and then extends from fine research to the whole. Besides memory, it is important to document knowledge, skill, and experience. Most of the time, the surgical operations done are works of art. Therefore, at least, the hobby of photography has a side that completes my profession. For me, a vital way to rid myself of the problems of my daily life and profession is through photography.
Every trip I take eventually turns into a photography trip; travels, private journeys, and the free time left from meetings always become chances to take photographs. In time, I notice that when I come across an interesting and worthwhile view, I always come to wonder 'from where, how, and in which way would I take its photo, how would I frame it?'. I spend more and more time on trips and photography, thus, besides displaying my creativity, I am able to rest spiritually."
