Çağla Celayir´s First Solo Exhibition at Schneidertempel
Çağla Celayir's first solo exhibition is opening at Schneidertempel Arts Center today, on Thursday, February 23rd.
Born in Istanbul in 1993, Çağla Celayir, being deeply fascinated by the 'Dali' exhibition she had visited while she was in Berlin for her university education, decided to study art. Like every woman living in Turkey, she internalized the crucial problem of society and turned those feelings into works of art. With the portraits she worked on, she showed how the perspective towards women in Turkey could be more colorful and meaningful. The artist uses many colors in her works as per her "Give us our colors!" slogan, in order to end the women's rights violations in society and so that the colors on women's faces no longer fade.
The artist is dedicating her works to all the women who are excluded due to their gender, forced to submit to oppression and persecution of the bigoted masses, who work with equal labor and are forced to earn a lower wage, whose right to be educated are taken away, who are forced to be economically dependent, who are exposed to physical and emotional violence and whose rights to live are begrudged.
Due to the troublesome times that we are experiencing, the artist will donate part of the proceeds from the exhibition to AÇEV (Mother Child Education Foundation) for the children affected by the earthquake.
The exhibition will be open for visiting until March 12th.
