"I Don´t Have Anything Particular to Tell You Today": Brand New Exhibition at Schneidertempel

The exhibition is based on 81 postcards from Seyhun Binzet's great collection, which Corporal Charles Robin, an officer in the French Oriental Army (The Armee d'Orient), serving at the Balkan Front towards the end of World War I, had sent to his wife and a close relative for 13 months (between August 1917-August 1918).

Charles Robin leaves for Thessaloniki in August 1917 with his unit and joins the French Oriental Army's war against German-Austria and Bulgarian forces in the Balkans. After leaving Thessaloniki, he travels with his unit among the Balkan towns. He stays in hospitals for some time. After recovering, he waits to return to the front or to be sent back to his country at the end of his mission term.

Corporal Robin's messages he had sent to his wife who had stayed back in France and suffered the war there, include his daily life and his expectations of the course of the war.

The exhibition aims to revive Robin's personal universe consisting of his impressions, expectations, troubles, and hopes through the images and messages on the postcards he had used. In addition, the photos that Robin had taken witnessing the year 1917 of the Balkans, which he used in some of his messages, complement the original and unprecedented aspect of the exhibition.

The objective of the exhibition organizers is not only to present the materials as the feelings, state of mind, and expressions of the individual named Charles Robin, but to remind us of a human condition within the framework of a universal identity and to witness a great historical moment.

The exhibition can be visited until April 9th, at Schneidertempel Arts Center.
