Ottoman-Jewish Museum Comes to Life in Izmir
The endeavor has begun for the Izmir Ottoman-Jewish Museum, designed with the vision of increasing global awareness concerning the historical attitude of the Ottoman Empire towards Jews and other minorities.
When completed, the museum will focus on the collective lives and creations of Muslims, Jews, and Christians in the Ottoman lands, mainly in Izmir, for more than six centuries, and the past and forthcoming impacts of this collective life.
The Kiriyati Foundation will take on the formation of the museum which will help immortalize this historical heritage based on coexistence and tolerance.
Kiriyati Foundation has recently announced the museum project which they have been working on for several years, and carrying out in communication and consensus with the Izmir Jewish Community. The foundation received official support from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the project in September 2022.
World Zionist Organization (WZO) is also supporting the project which was officially approved by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in June 2023. Moris Reyna will provide cooperation as the Turkey correspondent for the project with the essence of a national museum, which has been introduced in Jerusalem on September 10-12.
