The Republic proclaimed by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in 1923, based on the principle of national sovereignty enabling the people to govern themselves, is celebrating its 100th anniversary.
This form of governance, in which the political power is shared by the public and the representatives, was presented to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey on October 29, 1923.
Along with the approval of the changes made in the Turkish Constitution of 1921 (Teşkîlât-ı Esâsiye Kanunu), the Republic has been declared by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
