"Be What You Want to See In the World" - Interview with Noy Shani

By Bessy ADUT

Noy is a former sports journalist, turned a multiple 6-figure coach and hypnotherapist based in New Zealand. He is married to Shay and together they have two furbabies - Ernie and Nibbles. Since 2021, as well as training corporates in sales and communication, Noy has helped over 90+ individuals from more than 21 countries and cultures break through old patterns and limiting beliefs and truly gain back control of their life.

Where are you located?

I am located in New Zealand. I have lived in the UK for 13 years previously as well.

What are your current projects?

I am The Coach for Media Professionals and a Hypnotherapist.

Please share how you got started and got to where you are today...

I am a certified Master coach, and originally I used to be a self-made sports journalist. In fact, at the age of 16, I had Israel’s first-ever football fan website, which went crazy – it grew to a point where I had 14 staff working for me, we got featured on the radio and national TV and we were producing articles for major publications. It was wild, it grew to the point I became a local celebrity and people were literally stopping me in the streets.

I then climbed up the corporate ladder and was blessed to be a feature writer on behalf of global publications for huge events such as the FIFA World Cup and Cricket World Cup, and I built my way up ticking all the boxes – the promotions, the raises, the bonuses.

And ticking all those boxes came at a cost. I found myself saying yes to all those projects and the consequence was that I was run down, I found myself burnt out, I was energetically taxed, I was running on empty fumes. My wife and I, we actually planned a holiday. And I’m actually embarrassed to say but 30 minutes up until the plane took off, I was still working. It was this crazy handover with 20+ attachments with 20-30 pages each that I had to get overwritten, all whilst one of the busiest sporting weeks in the British calendar was on with a big horse racing festival.

And I closed that laptop. I boarded that plane. I sat down. I breathed a sigh of relief, and it hit me. Like ‘what the fuck was I doing? What was I doing? – I was here meaning to spend time with my partner, I had envisioned myself to be a world-class journalist, I didn’t envision myself being someone who couldn’t even take a little bit of time for me.

I took those two weeks and I tried not to think about work, at all. And of course, as the holiday sort of comes to a close, yes, work sort of starts taking up your mental bandwidth again. When I returned back to work, I tried getting back into that old familiar groove, but, but I just had lost my mojo. Like I just lost… I just lost something… 6 months sort of slipped by real quick and I wasn’t feeling myself and it’s not that I had nothing to be excited about myself – I was covering the FIFA World Cup(!!!)

And then it hit me, I was really blindsided by the fact I was depressed… Here I was trying to get back into the groove of things, but the reason I lost my mojo was because I was really not myself…

And that’s what set me on my journey. I started investing in coaching. I spent hundreds of hours reading self-help books, I’ve invested over $100k in myself, and that’s exactly why now, I help media professionals regain control of their lives in my programs. Because that’s everything I wish I had when I was going through that.

Has it been a smooth road?

Absolutely not.

Tell us more about your life and career...

I am married to my lovely wife Shay + 2 furbabies: our Frenchies Ernie (who's 4) and Nibbles (she will be 3 this August)

How do you define goodness?

For a person, for me, it's someone with both good intentions and good deeds - the on-court execution. Be what you want to see in the world. Walk your talk.

Who are you outside of your professional career?

I hired a singing coach recently, used to do a bit of musical theater a decade ago. I am working out 4 times a week and love playing with my dogs. I also love traveling, been to 54 countries to date and counting.

What are your thoughts on environmental issues?

That if anybody does even a little, we collectively alltogether have the power to change things.

Do you think the world is not a good place right now?

However cliche it may sound, I choose to focus on the positives, there are less than great things going on these days too but I think ultimately we should be proud of ourselves and how far we've come.

How do you make the world a better place?

By helping people unlock their lives and become the best version of themselves. Every time we change the timeline of our lives for the better we alter and impact 800 lives on average. Huge ripple effect!

How can we all make the world better?

Always go back to the questions 'What can I be responsible for? What can I learn from this experience?'

How can science and spirituality co-exist?

Oh, they do. In what I do they interwind daily. For example, I explain to people how to shift their state on demand by using something that was found out by Ivan Pavlov over 122 years ago. At the same time, this very same routine has a lot of imaginative work that goes into it. I incorporate a lot of practices that enable you to see and feel what you want to accomplish and who you want to become and back them with proven models, diagrams, and experiments.

If you could go anywhere where would you like to go?

Japan! It's the #1 place on my bucket list of all the places I have not been to yet. Just fascinated about the culture and everything there!
